Our Entrepreneurs in Mrs. Hassan’s class have created their own company! –

Hello, we’re a group of high school students starting a company called Diverse is not a Curse. Diverse is not a Curse is a company where we will create snack boxes based on different countries. We want to help people identify more with their own heritage or allow them to explore someone else’s through something we all love, food! The Covid-19 pandemic has left many feeling isolated, so we had the wonderful idea to bring culture and connection to people’s doorsteps. Our goal is not only to provide small pockets of joy during these trying times but to unite the world by encouraging us all to embrace and appreciate our differences.

If you wish to support our company, you can do so via the following link:

Our company name is Sanakit and due to the recent COVID-19 pandemic our company is encouraging safe practices amongst a COVID-ridden world by creating a convenient, portable, and low-cost keychain bundle. Our keychain bundle allows the user to carry a portable tissue holder, hand sanitizer holder, door grabber, and a mask compartment all in one place for easy access. You can support our company via the following link. We will reach out via Wednesday mail when our product is ready for sale.

Harmony Science Academy-Cedar Park was one of six Harmony campuses named an official State School of Character.

Six campuses from Harmony Public Schools were named official Texas “State Schools of Character” Monday for their outstanding efforts in promoting cultures of character in their schools and communities.

The awards were announced Monday by Character.org, a national advocate and leader for character development in schools.

Each year, Character.org certifies schools and districts at the state level that demonstrate a dedicated focus on character development, which the organization says has a positive effect on academic achievement, student behavior and school climate.

Only 15 campuses total in Texas earned the honor. No other school system earned more than three. The six Harmony campuses selected are:

  • Harmony Science Academy-Cedar Park
  • Harmony Science Academy-Pflugerville
  • Harmony Science Academy-Garland
  • Harmony School of Endeavor-Houston
  • Harmony School of Science-Houston
  • Harmony School of Innovation-Katy

The designations bring Harmony’s total number of active State School of Character designations to eight. Harmony School of Innovation-Fort Worth and Harmony School of Innovation-Houston both received State and National Schools of Character honors in 2020.

“We are tremendously proud of the effort these schools and their leaders put into creating cultures of character each day for their students and team members,” Harmony CEO Fatih Ay said. “Character always has been a critical part of our program at Harmony, because we strongly believe that traits like integrity, empathy, respect, and responsibility play important roles in our students’ ultimate success here at school, at home, and later in college and life beyond.”

Nineteen other Harmony campuses received “Honorable Mention” recognition, while another 20 were recognized as “Emerging” campuses. Both distinctions are generally considered precursors to future State School of Character designation. (Full list below.)

Each of these schools has put into place a comprehensive, multi-year approach to character education that inspires their students to understand, care about and consistently practice a set of core values that will enable them to flourish in school, in relationships, in the workplace, and as citizens. The schools then underwent a rigorous evaluation process to achieve their certification, documenting how they have implemented character education best practices and structures at each school.

“We congratulate these schools on achieving State School of Character designation in a year filled with so many challenges,” said Dr. Arthur Schwartz, Character.org’s President. “The educators and parents at these schools work together to ensure that every child understands, cares about, and consistently practice the core values that form the heart of each family and school.”

On the first school day after important federal workplace safeguards expired for millions of Americans,  Harmony Public Schools’ Executive Board voted to independently provide the much-needed benefits to its 4,000+ employees.

The benefits previously were part of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA), a federal program which provided American workers a number of workplace safeguards related to COVID-19. Primarily, the benefits included up to 10 Emergency Paid Sick Leave (EPSL) days if an employee was unable to work due to COVID-19 diagnosis, symptoms, possible exposure, or required quarantine for themselves, a family member, or child care provider.

Those federal benefits expired December 31, 2020. However, The Harmony Public Schools’ Executive Board voted at an emergency meeting Monday night, January 4, to independently extend the same benefits to employees throughout the remainder of the 2020-21 school year.

“The Harmony board felt this action was not only an important thing to do, but the right thing to do for our staff and their families,” Harmony CEO Fatih Ay said in a letter to employees  Tuesday. “By offering these benefits, our team members can know that their jobs and livelihoods will not be impacted if they need to seek treatment for COVID-19 or stay home with possible symptoms. Additionally, our student families also can know that Harmony is doing all it can to take care of the team members who take care of their students, and reduce potential COVID-19 exposure on campus.”

The 2019–20 School Report Cards (SRCs) are now available on the Texas Education Agency’s website. The purpose of the SRC is to inform parents and guardians about a campus’ individual characteristics and its academic performance. Due to COVID-19, all campuses and districts received a label of Not Rated: Declared State of Disaster for the 2019–20 school year. Therefore, several data points have not been updated, including STAAR® and academic growth data.

If you are unable to access the report electronically and would like a paper copy of the report, please contact your school and ask for a paper copy of the 2019-2020 School Report Card.
